College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University (AAU) Organizes a Scientific Lecture on Pharmacovigilance for Medical Staff at the Specialty Hospital
As part of Amman Arab University’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of reporting drug side effects and strengthen medication safety awareness among healthcare professionals, the university’s College of Pharmacy organized an awareness lecture titled “Introduction to Pharmacovigilance and Its Importance,” presented by Dr. Lobna Gharaibeh, Vice Dean of the College of Pharmacy, with the participation of a number of the program’s students and graduates. The lecture was attended by 30 members of the medical staff at the Specialty Hospital.
The lecture covered the fundamental concepts of pharmacovigilance and its central role in ensuring the safe use of medications, in addition to the importance of reporting side effects in the early detection of drug-related risks and reducing their impact on patient health. It also reviewed the practical mechanisms used for monitoring and documenting side effects, as well as ways to enhance the participation of medical and pharmaceutical staff in this vital field. The lecture also featured contributions from Master’s students in Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Affairs, Amneh Abu Qamar and Hamza Al-Hamawi, who enriched the session with scientific input addressing the practical and applied aspects of pharmacovigilance, further enhancing the practical benefit for the attending medical staff.
On this occasion, Dr. Gharaibeh emphasized that targeting the medical staff working at the Specialty Hospital reflects the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between academic institutions and healthcare facilities. This contributes to establishing a culture of proactive reporting of side effects as a fundamental pillar for protecting patient health and improving the quality of healthcare provided to the community.
