Amman Arab University (AAU) Strengthens National Partnerships by Supporting Student Projects During a Scientific Visit to the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB)

As part of Amman Arab University’s vision to strengthen national partnerships and bridge higher education outcomes with scientific research and innovation, and in line with the directives of the University President, Professor Mohammad Al-Widyan, under the supervision of Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty organized a scientific visit to the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB).

The visit was attended by several JODDB engineers, including Eng. Eyad Alawneh, Eng. Omar Al-Attoum, Eng. Saleh Alyan, and Eng. Moataz Al-Atiyat. Two student teams from the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and Cybersecurity programs participated in the visit under the supervision of Dr. Bilal Khater, faculty member at the Faculty of Information Technology.

During the visit, the students presented their graduation projects to a distinguished panel of engineers and experts at JODDB. The presentations were followed by in-depth technical discussions focusing on the practical aspects of the projects, as well as opportunities for further development and transformation into innovative solutions with tangible applications that serve various sectors.

The Artificial Intelligence and Data Science team, comprising Jana Hanoush, Lama Ihsan, and Ahmad Nibras, presented their graduation project entitled “Breacher-7 Hover Drone Landmine Detector Robot.” The project employs Artificial Intelligence and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies to develop an innovative solution for landmine detection, contributing to enhanced safety and security through advanced technological applications. Meanwhile, the Cybersecurity team, consisting of Mohammad Al-Ajarmeh and Amer Ghaith, presented a specialized project focusing on the cybersecurity of unmanned systems and drones. Their presentation highlighted key research findings, proposed mechanisms for strengthening the cybersecurity of UAV systems, and addressed emerging security challenges associated with these technologies.

The visit also featured a series of technical meetings between the students and JODDB engineers, during which the technical aspects of the projects were thoroughly reviewed. Discussions focused on the practical challenges of implementation, opportunities for technical support, knowledge exchange, and potential collaboration to further develop the projects and enhance their readiness for real-world deployment. As part of the visit, the students toured JODDB’s advanced facilities, where they explored drone manufacturing and assembly lines, engineering and electronic systems development laboratories, and prototypes of advanced vehicles and defense technologies. The tour also provided valuable insights into the Bureau’s engineering environment and its research and development methodologies.

JODDB experts commended the high academic standard of the presented projects, emphasizing their strong research value and promising practical potential. The Bureau expressed its willingness to provide technical support to the Artificial Intelligence team by supplying a 3D-printed drone chassis, recommending the development of a virtual reality-based simulation environment, and considering the project’s participation in the SOFEX exhibition upon completion of its development stages.

Regarding the Cybersecurity project, JODDB experts stressed the importance of conducting practical testing in addition to simulation-based evaluations. Both parties agreed to coordinate with JODDB’s Cyber Protection and Cyber Shield teams to hold specialized technical meetings aimed at further enhancing the project and strengthening its outcomes.

The Bureau also introduced several future collaboration opportunities for Amman Arab University students, including support for research and innovation projects, the provision of engineering and technical consultations, practical training opportunities, participation in the Innovation Hub programs, and engagement in cybersecurity boot camps, technical exhibitions, and specialized technology events.

This visit reflects Amman Arab University’s commitment to providing an integrated, application-oriented learning environment and strengthening collaboration with leading national institutions. Such initiatives contribute to preparing highly qualified graduates equipped with the knowledge, technical expertise, and practical skills needed to keep pace with rapid technological advancements while actively contributing to Jordan’s innovation ecosystem and sustainable national development.
