The College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University (AAU) Participates in the “I Participate” Hackathon Organized by the Independent Election Commission
As part of Amman Arab University’s commitment to empowering youth in national issues and fostering a culture of active participation, the University’s College of Information Technology participated in the “I Participate” Hackathon, organized by the Independent Election Commission as part of its “I Participate” program. The event witnessed broad participation from universities across the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The hackathon, held for the Central and Northern regions, included 11 universities and featured a dynamic competitive atmosphere. Participants focused on developing innovative technological solutions and ideas that contribute to enhancing youth participation and democratic awareness through the application of modern technologies and digital transformation. The competition showcased creative projects in the fields of smart applications, artificial intelligence, and digital platforms, reflecting the ability of Jordanian youth to harness technology for community service and public engagement.
Two outstanding teams of students from the College of Information Technology represented Amman Arab University under the supervision of Dr. Tariq Bishtawi, the University’s liaison officer for the competition, and Dr. Belal Khater, a colleage member. The teams presented two innovative projects that linked digital transformation and technology with fieldwork and community awareness, aiming to encourage youth participation in the political process and parliamentary elections.
The Amman Arab University students who participated in the hackathon were: Rama Mustafa and Sundus Kayali, majoring in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Huda Yassin, majoring in Software Engineering; and Saif Al-Tamimi, Rahaf Al-Qaisi, Lin Obeid, and Waad Al-Qaddoumi, majoring in Cybersecurity. They represented the University by presenting innovative technological projects and ideas that promote community and youth engagement through technology and digital transformation.
The students’ projects were praised by the judging panel for their creative ideas and practical, implementable solutions. The participating students also received certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts and active participation in the hackathon.
Dr. Rami Sihwail, Dean of the College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, affirmed that the College’s participation in such national events aligns with the University’s vision of empowering students and enhancing their role in serving the community. He pointed out that the College is committed to encouraging its students to employ their technical skills and digital creativity in addressing national and societal issues, thereby contributing to the preparation of qualified graduates capable of innovation, competition, and effective contribution to the processes of development and modernization.
