The College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University (AAU) Participates in a Parliamentary Meeting to Discuss Aligning Technical Specializations with the Labor Market
In line with Amman Arab University’s vision of leadership and excellence in higher education, and to enhance its role in supporting digital transformation, Dr. Rami Sahwil, Dean of the College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, participated in a meeting held by the Parliamentary Committee on Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, chaired by Mu’ayyad Al-Alawneh. The meeting addressed the current state of information technology specializations in Jordanian universities and their alignment with labor market demands. Deans of colleges of information technology from several public and private universities were also present. This meeting aligns with royal directives calling for support for digital transformation and the development of the education system, thereby strengthening Jordan’s position in the knowledge economy and underscoring the importance of higher education outcomes in technical specializations amid the rapid transformations taking place globally in the digital economy sector.
Amman Arab University’s participation in this meeting affirms its active role in supporting the development of technical education and its ongoing commitment to aligning its academic programs with the requirements of the local and regional labor market, thereby enhancing its graduates’ readiness for competition and innovation. During the meeting, Committee Chairman Mu’ayyad Al-Alawneh emphasized the importance of continuously aligning educational outcomes with labor market needs, particularly in modern technological fields. He stressed the necessity of regularly updating curricula to keep pace with technological advancements. He also noted the importance of utilizing the input of college deans in developing educational policies and improving the quality of graduates.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between higher education institutions and the public and private sectors, given their role in bridging the gap between education and the labor market and enhancing graduate competence by equipping students with practical skills and modern technical knowledge. MPs Hamza Al-Toubasi and Suleiman Al-Kharabsheh also stressed the need to develop information technology specializations to keep pace with rapid advancements, focusing on strengthening the practical aspect and linking educational outcomes to labor market needs.
During the meeting, Dr. Rami Sahwil reviewed the current state of academic programs, mechanisms for their development, and the challenges facing information technology specializations, stressing the importance of building a continuous and dynamic partnership with the labor market in order to bridge the gap between the two sides. In turn, the deans of the colleges indicated that study plans are updated periodically, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and modern technologies, to keep pace with rapid developments. They noted that the labor market is characterized by dynamism and constant change, which requires a flexible response from academic institutions. They also confirmed the existence of increasing opportunities for information technology graduates, stressing the need to continue supporting universities and enhancing their infrastructure to keep pace with global developments.
