The College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University (AAU) Wins First Place in the Green Technology and Sustainability Track at the 13th National Technology Festival
The College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University achieved another significant milestone, adding to its record of accomplishments, with the “Change The Future” team winning first place for their “AquaGuard AI” project in the Green Technology and Sustainability track at the 13th National Technology Festival, hosted by Al-Ahliyya Amman University. The competition was fierce among innovative projects from various Jordanian universities.
The festival saw the participation of 611 projects from Jordanian universities, of which 400 met the participation requirements. A total of 120 projects qualified for the final stage, and the “AquaGuard AI” project outperformed 16 other qualifying teams in the Green Technology and Sustainability track, securing first place. This achievement was made possible by its smart and sustainable solution, which utilizes artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to monitor water networks, detect abnormal water loss at an early stage, and analyze flow patterns. This supports operational decision-making, enhances the efficiency of water resource management, and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
This achievement is the result of the efforts of a team comprising Zaid Al-Shoubaki, Mohammad Al-Kharabsheh, and Qusai Al-Qadi, all majoring in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, along with Maria Al-Shishani, a Master’s student in Computer Science. The project was supervised by Dr. Hossam Almahasneh, a faculty member in the College of Information Technology, and embodies the spirit of teamwork, creativity, and commitment. It is also the result of the outstanding academic support and supervision provided by the college.
In this regard, Dr. Rami Sahwil, Dean of the College of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, affirmed that this achievement reflects the distinguished academic level attained by the college’s students and underscores its success in providing a stimulating learning environment that fosters creativity and innovation. This environment bridges the gap between academic knowledge and practical application through the implementation of high-quality projects that address real-world challenges and keep pace with modern technological advancements. He added that winning first place represents the culmination of the students’ efforts and the guidance of the faculty members. It also embodies Amman Arab University’s commitment to supporting excellence and leadership in the fields of technology, artificial intelligence, and scientific research, as well as empowering students to develop innovative solutions that contribute to serving the community and achieving sustainable development.
As part of its active participation in the festival, Amman Arab University contributed to organizing the event through the membership of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, on the festival’s Higher Steering Committee. Several university faculty members also contributed to the organizing committees, reflecting the university’s role in supporting and ensuring the success of national events focused on innovation and technology, and in strengthening cooperation among higher education institutions.
