Amman Arab University’s (AAU) Faculty of Pharmacy Organizes an Awareness Lecture on Electronic Cigarettes at Nadeem Al-Mallah School
As part of Amman Arab University’s ongoing efforts to promote health awareness and combat the scourge of smoking, the university’s Faculty of Pharmacy organized an awareness lecture entitled: “Electronic Cigarettes: What Do We Know Scientifically? And What Does This Mean for Young People in Jordan?” for eighth-grade students at Nadeem Al-Mallah Boys’ School in Bayader Wadi Al-Seer. The lecture was presented by Dr. Adel Ardakani, a faculty member in the Faculty of Pharmacy and an expert in pharmaceutical chemistry.
The lecture aimed to raise students’ awareness of the dangers of e-cigarettes and modern smoking products, and to explain their potential health effects, given their widespread use among various segments of society, particularly young people. It also aimed to enhance their ability to distinguish between scientific information and common misconceptions related to these products. During the lecture, Dr. Ardakani discussed traditional and electronic cigarettes and other modern smoking products, explaining their mechanisms of action, the differences between the chemical substances and compounds used, and their potential impact on human health, as well as their social, economic, and environmental effects. The lecture also included an interactive dialogue with the students, allowing them to ask questions and discuss various smoking-related practices and phenomena in their communities.
In this regard, Professor Dr. Rana Abu Hawij, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, emphasized that organizing this lecture comes within the framework of the faculty’s strategic plan and its role in spreading health awareness and contributing to anti-smoking efforts. She noted that these efforts complement the awareness-raising role played by the smoking cessation clinic at the Faculty of Pharmacy, thus strengthening the approach of prevention and health education, and supporting the development of sustainable awareness among members of society, especially young people.
Dr. Ardakani expressed his delight at the remarkable level of interaction shown by the students, which was evident through their diverse participation and inquiries. He commended the questions and comments that reflected interest and awareness of issues related to smoking, its products, and its various effects. He emphasized the keenness of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University to invest in awareness and prevention programs and to enhance students’ scientific knowledge about the dangers of addiction to smoking products, including its health, social, and economic dimensions. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Ardakani expressed his gratitude to the school’s director, Dr. Raafat Al-Sakarna, and to the school’s teaching and administrative staff, in appreciation of their fruitful cooperation, warm welcome, and the support they provided, which contributed to the success of the lecture and the achievement of its awareness-raising goals.
